Missing the point - Thank you GameStop!

Today GameStop made history. They thought of something that nobody else would have. Selling DLC's in their stores. Very novel of them indeed.

For those not in the know, DLC stands for Downloadable Content. Meaning that a developer or a publisher can quickly get content to the players through the intrawebs quickly and without much hazzle. Most publishers or delivery platforms have some sort of point system, or paypal or something that is quick and painless to pay for the content and the download is often quick (but obviously depends on your ISP).

This content can range from that special tommy gun in Godfather which you could buy for 2$ or a whole "Expansion", like Shivering isles for Oblivion (which did not cost 2$(.

so the point is, you can develop and deliver addons to your game and charge small fees for it, and deliver quickly and the player can enjoy the new content almost instantly.

So here is where GameStop fails.

Why would you want to travel to the nearest GameStop, using transportation of your choice, purchase a 2$ tommy gun to use in Godfather, travel back home and still having to download it, probably using some code or something.

In my eyes, this works against everything DLC stands for! A quick and cheap access to new content to keep your game alive for a long time.

Talk about missing the point!

So i've blogged on and off for the past decade or so, mostly during the "blog explosion" where it seemed that everyone and their mothers had a blog out there, sharing their most innermost secrets to the rest of the world.

I do like blogs as they are a good expression format, allowing you to get your thoughts, ideas and opinions out there in the open and get others to share their opinions too, even if they are not the same. It is good to communicate, even if there is a difference in opinions. I tend to like those types of communications, where the other person is not agreeing.

The problem I see with my own blogging is that it often ends up being a pointless rant about insignificant things (see, i'm already starting!).

So this blog is intended as a personal experiment in getting structure to my thoughts and to get them out of my brain.

So welcome to this blog, you will undoubtedly not agree with everything I have to say, but that is all good as I said I like getting other people's opinions about what I'm thinking about, as that is one of the ways I learn. So feel free to comment.
